QMD Walks

QMD Walks are typically mountain days, and mostly QMDs. There are a couple of shorter walks that would not really qualify but rather than mess about we put them in here anyway.
QMD walks typically go up onto high ground and usually take in at least one summit of a mountain (a distinct prominence that is at least 610m above sea level).
They often cover difficult ground and go off the paths, requiring the ability to navigate and orienteer. By definition that means being able to use a map and compass proficiently even in bad weather conditions.

Other walks are typically walks on Lowland and may include some Hill and Moorland. All this does really is distinguish them from QMDs. They may go off the paths and cover rough ground and also require the ability to navigate and orienteer. By definition that means being able to use a map and compass proficiently even in bad weather conditions.
